Octinoxate

Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate

Also known as: Octyl Methoxycinnamate, OMC

Octinoxate (ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate) is one of the most widely used chemical UVB filters. It absorbs UVB radiation (290–320nm) and converts it to heat. It is photostable when used alone but can destabilise avobenzone. Banned in Hawaii and some other jurisdictions due to coral reef toxicity concerns. Effective and well-tolerated for most skin types.
