Methylparaben

Also known as: 4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid Methyl Ester

Methylparaben is the most commonly used paraben preservative, effective against bacteria and fungi. Despite widespread consumer concern, parabens are among the most studied cosmetic ingredients and are considered safe at approved concentrations by major regulatory bodies including the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety. The estrogenic activity of parabens in cosmetics is considered negligible.
