Phenoxyethanol

Also known as: 2-Phenoxyethanol, Ethylene Glycol Monophenyl Ether

Phenoxyethanol is one of the most widely used cosmetic preservatives, effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi. It is used at concentrations up to 1% (the EU regulatory maximum). Often combined with ethylhexylglycerin or caprylyl glycol to broaden its antimicrobial spectrum. Generally well-tolerated, though some individuals with sensitive skin may react.
