Also known as: SLES, Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate
Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) is an ethoxylated version of SLS, making it milder and less irritating. It provides good foaming and cleansing performance while being better tolerated by sensitive skin. The ethoxylation process can introduce trace amounts of 1,4-dioxane, though this is typically removed during manufacturing. Widely used in shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers.
Comedogenicity ratings are based on the rabbit ear assay model. Individual skin responses vary. See our article on comedogenicity ratings for context.
