Also known as: SLS, Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is an anionic surfactant widely used in cleansers and shampoos for its strong foaming and cleansing properties. It is effective at removing oil and dirt but can disrupt the skin barrier and cause irritation, particularly in sensitive skin. At concentrations above 2%, it is a known skin irritant. Many sensitive skin formulations have moved to milder alternatives.
