Urea

Also known as: Carbamide

Urea is a naturally occurring component of the skin's natural moisturising factor (NMF). At low concentrations (2–10%), it functions as a humectant. At higher concentrations (20–40%), it acts as a keratolytic, breaking down the protein bonds in the stratum corneum to promote exfoliation. Particularly effective for dry, rough, or hyperkeratotic skin.
